30 in 30 Painting Challenge – Day 12

9/12/14

I mentioned in a previous post that I am attending the Northern Ohio Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators Conference on September 19th and 20th in Cleveland, Ohio. I’m looking forward to gathering with other illustrators for a weekend of learning and collaborating!

Attendees were asked to illustrate different parts of the same story. The story is short and cute – its about two kids, Sasha + Tyler, that meet at the library. Over the next few day I will post the illustrations I plan to bring to the conference to share with the group.

I can’t believe I’ve completed almost two weeks of Leslie Saeta’s 30 Paintings in 30 Days challenge! It’s been an interesting ride so far — I’ll share more of my thoughts on the process later… its Friday evening so its time to kick back and relax! Stay tuned…

watercolor - cropped

This watercolor is my attempt to paint loose, fast, and free without being too fussy! I will be experimenting in the coming weeks with this medium — I love to watch the combination of pigment and water spread across the paper and see what comes of it.

Graham Berry, a very talented watercolorists based in London, has  inspired me to try  new things within the medium. I absolutely love his work because each piece tells a vivid story. The interaction in Two Girls is so captivating that I had to share it here:

Stay tuned for Day 11 of the 30 in 30 Painting Challenge!

rocks

I thought I would switch the medium to watercolor for today’s painting in Leslie Saeta’s 30 Paintings in 30 Days worldwide challenge. I set up my easel in our backyard and painted the rocks in our lake.

I’ve completed my first week of the 30 in 30 Painting Challenge! Yay!  Its been great so far to create new work each day and I look forward to see what other artists are creating and posting to Leslie Saeta’s site as well. I am truly inspired by so many of the artists involved in the challenge – so much talent! Margaret Sheldon’s work has really caught my eye. I highly recommend you check out her blog – especially if you’re in need of a little inspiration 🙂

Coney Island girls

Trying something new – painting from vacation photos. They remind me of Polaroid snapshots from back in the day. This one is of me and my daughter on the boardwalk at Coney Island in Brooklyn New York.
